Congratulations to Dorothy Negash of York for being one of PeoplesBank’s Redeem Your Dreams winners! She won $2,000 to put toward her dream of building a ramp to enter and exit her home more easily.
Dorothy’s Story
A York County girl, born and bred, Dorothy grew up on the West End of town, but now lives on the East End. Since 1989, Dorothy has worked as a nurse, both in in-home health and, for the last couple of years, in hospice care. In addition to working as a nurse, Dorothy also home-schooled both of her children throughout their entire education career, both of whom still live in the York area.
In January of 2023, Dorothy experienced a ruptured tendon in her R foot which made it impossible for her to return to her previous job. A longstanding battle with arthritis has been exacerbated and now causes great difficulty for her in navigating stairs and has led to the use of a rollator.
Dorothy plans to use the $2,000 to have a ramp installed in the front of her house to assist her in entering and exiting her home. She plans to contact the group, “Servants,” who helps people with disabilities build amenities at an affordable cost. This installation would give her some of her independence back, allowing her to do things like get her own groceries and running daily errands again.
