Congratulations to Terri Hebel, Food Pantry Director of Stewartstown Food Pantry in Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, on being one of our Redeem Your Dreams winners! She’s won $2,000 to put towards the Stewartstown Food Pantry’s goal of fixing up their storage shed and purchasing a deep chest freezer.
Stewartstown Food Pantry’s Story
Part of the Stewartstown United Methodist Church, the Stewartstown Food Pantry originated as part of their children’s ministry. When the Coronavirus Pandemic started in 2020, they could no longer deliver the food to the schools and families in need like they had been doing.
That’s when they decided to make a shift. They started delivering bags of food to the schools for drive-thru lunches and put out a sign at their church, handing out to anyone that came. The response was larger than they expected, and they noticed there was a bigger need in the community.
From there the “Stewartstown Food Pantry” was formed. They found a garage near the church for more storage and developed into their present form. They are currently in their third year of operation. In the next few years, they are really keeping their eyes open to find a larger space, having outgrown their current space. Another goal of theirs is to create a Visionary Committee to see where things could move in the future.
The Stewartstown Food Pantry plans to use the $2,000 to make some repairs to the shed behind their garage that they use for storage, but to also purchase a larger freezer. This will allow them to stock a better variety of food and become more efficient.
